According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK), in December 2009 Turkey's monthly industrial production index increased by 25.2 percent year on year and was up 8.7 percent compared to November. In November, the index had decreased by 8.6 percent month on month.
Among the various industrial sectors in Turkey, the production index in the mining sector in December increased by 15.46 percent, while the index for the manufacturing sector declined by 28 percent, both compared with the same month of the previous year. The index for the electricity, gas and water sector increased by 10.9 percent year on year.
In December 2009, the index for the manufacture of basic metals increased by 14.95 percent year on year and was up 5.18 percent over November, while the index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products, excepting machinery, rose by 34.26 percent year on year and was up 12.38 percent compared to the previous month.
