Turkey’s May exports just shy of $6 billion
Turkey's exports amounted to $5.98 billion in May, up 21.1% year on year, according to data released by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).
Exports totaled $29.4 billion for the first five months of 2005, up 22.5% year on year. Exports over the past 12 months rose 28.5% to $69.42 billion.
Exports from the
automotive industry and its subsidiaries gained enough momentum in May to surpass textile and ready-to-wear exports.
Automotive and related exports rose 35.5% year on year to hit $1.18 billion in May; on the other hand, ready-to-wear exports rose 9.5% to $1.05 billion.
An increase in productivity played a major role in the strong performance of overall exports. In addition, measures taken by the EU and the U.S. to clamp down on Chinese imports contributed to
Turkey's increased exports.
