Turkish integrated long steel producer Kardemir has announced that it has decided to procure the equipment for its new wire rod and premium quality steel round bar mill from Germany-based plantmaker SMS Meer.

This new mill will be Kardemir's third rolling mill and it will be integrated into the company's 3 million mt per year production capacity. Kardemir expects to increase its annual liquid steel capacity from 1.8 million mt to 3 million mt with the blast furnace No. 5 which is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2014.

The new wire rod and premium quality steel round bar mill will have an initial annual capacity of 700,000 mt, which will later be increased to 1.4 million mt per year. The new rolling mill will produce high value-added products including high alloy steel, bearing steel, free-cutting steel and spring steel, especially for the automotive and manufacturing industries.
