In January this year, Turkish steel billet exports increased both in volume and in revenue compared to December last year, as a result of efforts to compensate for the significant drop in rebar exports.
According to the preliminary data released by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in January this year Turkey's total steel billet exports amounted to 248,114 metric tons, increasing by 10.96 percent month on month and up 130.28 percent compared to January 2009. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $107.23 million, increasing by 136.52 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and up 13.31 percent over December 2009.
In January, the average export price of Turkish steel billet was $432/mt, up $9/mt or 2.12 percent from December 2009 levels, and indicating an increase of $11.4/mt or 2.71 percent as compared to January 2009.
