In September this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 855,057 mt, up 46.6 percent month on month and rising by 28 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 44.2 percent to $58.4 million compared to the previous month and was down 20.5 percent year on year.
In the first nine months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports increased by 2.6 percent to 7.71 million mt, while revenues from these imports decreased by 20 percent to $502.5 million, both year on year.
In the January-September period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 3.88 million mt, up 13.20 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 1.45 million mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 1.16 million mt.
