According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK), in August Turkey's monthly industrial production index decreased by 6.3 percent year on year to 104.2, and was down 5.7 percent compared to July.
Among the various industrial sectors in Turkey, the production index in the mining sector in August this year increased by 0.6 percent from 148.7 to 149.7, while the index for the manufacturing sector fell 7.2 percent from 106.6 to 98.9, both compared with the same month of the previous year. The index for the electricity, gas and water sector, on the other hand, decreased by 3.6 percent year on year, from 136.5 to 131.6.
Meanwhile, the highest decrease in the manufacturing index in August was realized in the manufacture of other transport equipment, marking a fall of 37 percent over the same month of the previous year, followed by the manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products with a drop of 29.8 percent.
In August this year, the index for the manufacture of basic metals fell 17.77 percent year on year and was down 9.71 percent over July, while the index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products was down 14.82 percent year on year and declined slightly, by 0.43 percent, compared to the previous month.
