Turkey's flat steel imports rises 33 percent in July

In July this year Turkey's flat steel imports rose by 22 percent month on month and by 33 percent compared to the same month last year to 881,000 mt, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). 

In July, Turkey imported the most flat steel from Russia with 304,000 mt, up 60 percent year on year. Other top sources of imported flat steel in the given month include France with 87,000 mt, up 132 percent, and China with 68,000 mt, up 217 percent, both year on year. Hence, in July, Russia, France and China accounted for 52 percent of Turkey's total flat steel imports.

In the given month, the imports of all kinds of flat steel products of the country rose on year-on-year basis. Compared to July 2016, in July this year hot rolled sheet imports rose by 32 percent to 528,000 mt, imports of galvanized sheet amounted to 97,000 mt, up by 23 percent, imports of cold rolled sheet increased by 31 percent to 90,000 mt and imports of plate amounted to 72,000 metric tons, up by 110 percent. In the month in question, Turkey's top hot rolled coil (HRC) import sources were Russia, France and China.
