Turkey’s finished steel output declines, consumption rises in Jan-Feb

Finished steel output in Turkey in the January-February period this year declined by 1.6 percent to 5.66 million mt, while finished steel consumption increased by 6.6 percent to 5 million mt, both year on year, according to a report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

As stated in the report, in the first two months, Turkey's long product output totaled 4.13 million mt, up 1.2 percent, and its flat product output declined by 8.2 percent to 1.54 million mt, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, 72.8 percent of the total finished steel output consisted of long products and 27.2 percent was accounted for by flat products.
 
In the January-February period, consumption of long products in Turkey increased by 4.4 percent to 2.46 million mt, while flat product consumption rose by 8.8 percent to 2.55 million mt, year on year. In the given period, 49.1 percent of total finished steel consumption was for long products, while 50.9 percent was accounted for by flat products.
