Turkey's finished steel consumption down 1.6% in Jan-Apr

In the first four months of this year, Turkey's finished steel output increased by 0.4 percent year on year to 11.49 million metric tons, according to a report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). In the given period, Turkey's long product output increased by 2.5 percent to 8.35 million metric tons and its flat product output decreased by 4.9 percent to 3.14 million metric tons, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, 72.7 percent of the total finished steel output consisted of long products and 27.3 percent was accounted for by flat products. 
 
As stated in the report, in the first four months of the current year Turkey's finished steel consumption decreased by 1.6 percent year on year to 9.39 million metric tons, due to problems in the country's economy. In the given period, consumption of long products in the country increased by 1.6 percent to 4.87 million metric tons, while flat product consumption decreased by 4.9 percent to 4.52 million metric tons. In the given period, 51.9 percent of total finished steel consumption was for long products and 48.1 percent was accounted for by flat products.
