Turkey's domestic scrap supplies up 7.8 percent in Jan-Oct

According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in the January-October period this year Turkey's total domestic scrap supply volume increased by 7.8 percent year on year to 9.02 million metric tons, despite the 3.8 percent year-on-year decrease in the country's crude steel output in the same period, which amounted to 28.29 million metric tons. In the same period, Turkey's scrap imports decreased by 12.6 percent year on year to 16.51 million metric tons.
 
In the first 10 months of this year, Turkey's scrap imports from the US decreased by 14.6 percent to 4.58 million metric tons, while imports from the UK increased by 6.8 to 2.11 million metric tons and imports from Romania rose 9.3 percent to 1.66 million metric tons, all on year-on-year basis. On the other hand, Turkey's scrap imports from Russia decreased by 15.6 percent to 1.64 million metric tons and scrap imports from Belgium fell 4.6 percent to 935,000 metric tons. In the same period, Turkey's scrap imports from European countries decreased 8.9 percent to 8.69 metric tons and imports from CIS countries fell 19.5 percent to 1.98 million metric tons, both on year-on-year basis.
 
In the January-September period this year, Turkey's scrap usage decreased by 6.3 percent year on year to 25.53 million metric tons, while scrap usage by electric arc furnaces declined by 7.1 percent to 23.72 million metric tons, and scrap usage by blast furnaces increased by 5.9 percent, amounting to 1.81 million metric tons, both on year-on-year basis.
