Turkey's crude steel output up 15.1 percent in May over April

In May this year, Turkey's crude steel output decreased by 0.7 percent year on year, but increased by 15.1 percent compared to April to 3.02 million metric tons, according to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). In the given month, Turkey's crude steel output by electric arc furnaces increased by 9.5 percent month on month and decreased by 0.5 percent year on year to 2.15 million metric tons, while production by blast furnaces increased by 32 percent month on month, but decreased by 1.1 percent year on year to 862,000 metric tons.
 
Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year Turkey's crude steel output recorded a decrease of 2.2 percent year on year, totaling 14.06 million mt. In the given period, Turkey's crude steel production by electric arc furnaces declined by 1.2 percent to 10 million metric tons, while production by blast furnaces decreased by 4.8 percent to 4.07 million metric tons, both on year-on-year basis.
 
In the January-May period this year, Turkey's billet output decreased by 4.1 percent to 10.36 million mt, while the country's slab output increased by 3.5 percent to 3.71 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.
