In August this year, Turkey's crude steel output increased by 13.9 percent year on year and was up by 2.8 percent compared to July to 2.9 million metric tons, according to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). In the given month, Turkey's crude steel output by electric arc furnaces increased by 3.8 percent year on year to 2.03 million metric tons. In the same month, Turkey's crude steel production by blast furnaces registered a significant rise of 47.2 percent year on year to 872,000 metric tons, with this increase being due to domestic producer Isdemir's loss of production last year.

Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year Turkey's crude steel output recorded an increase of 0.7 percent year on year, totaling 22.83 million mt. In the given period, Turkey's crude steel production by electric arc furnaces declined by 1.3 percent to 16.08 million metric tons and production by blast furnaces increased by six percent to 6.75 million metric tons, both on year-on-year basis.

In the January-July period this year, Turkey's billet output decreased by 3.6 percent to 16.64 million mt, while the country's slab output increased by 14.8 percent to 6.18 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.
