According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in 2015 the ongoing decline in steel prices and the gradual increase in unfair imports into Turkey continued to reduce the margins of domestic steelmakers, leading to a decline in Turkish crude steel output.
In the given year, Turkey’s crude steel output decreased by 7.4 percent year on year to 31.52 million mt. In 2015, Turkey’s crude steel output by electric arc furnaces declined by 13.8 percent year on year to 20.48 million mt, while crude steel output by integrated plants rose by 7.3 percent year on year to 11.03 million mt.
Meanwhile, in December 2015 Turkey’s crude steel production recorded a increase of 1.3 percent month on month and a decrease of 1.6 percent year on year to 2.67 million mt. In the given month, Turkey’s crude steel production by electric arc furnaces declined by 5.3 percent on year-on-year basis to 1.71 million mt, while the crude steel output of integrated plants decreased by 5.7 percent year on year to 961,000 mt.
On the other hand, in 2015 Turkey’s billet output decreased by 5.6 percent to 23.23 million mt, while the country’s slab output increased by a significant 12.1 percent to 8.29 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.
