In May this year, Turkey's coking coal imports totaled 720,973 mt, up 16.52 percent year on year and increasing by 114.33 percent on month-on-month basis, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, the value of these imports was $98.52 million, down 4.98 percent year on year, but increasing by 112.64 percent month on month.
In the first five months of this year, Turkey's coking coal imports increased by 4.02 percent to 2.35 million metric tons, while the value of these imports totaled $338.77 million, down 7.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In May this year, Turkey's coking coal imports from the US increased by 37.05 percent to 495,249 mt, while coking coal imports from Canada decreased by 2.91 percent to 164,396 mt, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the five months of this year Turkey's coking coal imports from the US increased by 21.35 percent year on year to 1.83 million mt. The US was followed by Canada with 329,393 mt of coking coal exports to Turkey in the given period.
