Turkey’s billet imports up 58.4 percent in February from January

In February this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by 15.2 percent year on year to 505,365 mt, up 58.4 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $142.2 million, up 25.3 percent year on year and rising by 50.4 percent compared to the previous month.

In the January-February period this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by 11 percent year on year to 824,355 mt, while the value of these imports totaled $236.8 million, down 28.2 percent year on year.

In February, Turkey imported 217,257 mt of billet and bloom from China, which had not exported any billet to Turkey in February 2015, ranking first among Turkey's main billet and bloom import sources. China was followed by Russia with 152,261 mt, up 12.7 percent and by Ukraine with 137,167 mt, down 39.1 percent, both year on year. Meanwhile, in the first two months of this year, Turkey imported 261,478 mt of billet and bloom from Ukraine, down 27.5 percent year on year. Ukraine was followed by China with 260,157 mt and Russia with 231,569 mt.
