Turkey’s billet imports down eight percent in 2016

In December last year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume decreased by 41.4 percent year on year to 223,786 mt, down five percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $84.2 million, down 26.55 percent year on year and rising by 1.7 percent compared to the previous month.

 
In 2016, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume decreased by eight percent year on year to 4.53 million mt, while the value of these imports totaled $1.47 billion, down 20.7 percent year on year.
 
Last year, Turkey imported 1,733,965 mt of billet and bloom from Russia, up 12.9 percent year on year, with Russia ranking as Turkey's leading billet and bloom import source, ahead of Ukraine which supplied 1,408,748 mt in the given period.
