MMK-Atakas, a Turkish joint venture steel project developed by the Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (
MMK) and the
Turkey-based Atakas Group of Companies, has produced 156,000 mt of finished steel products in 2010, registering a 373 percent year-on-year increase following the commissioning and ramp-up of its major
production facilities,
MMK has said in a report.
In February 2010,
MMK-Atakas commissioned its color coating line, and in April 2010 it commissioned its hot dip galvanizing line. At the same time, the captive sea port of
MMK-Atakas in Iskenderun, the biggest private sea port in
Turkey, started operations. Construction works have also been completed at the cold rolling shop, scrap yard, water preparation shop and power station. In October 2010,
MMK-Atakas commissioned its cold rolling mill.
All the outstanding
production facilities of
MMK-Atakas in Iskenderun and in Istanbul are planned to be commissioned in 2011, allowing
MMK to strengthen its footprint in the Middle Eastern market.
