Turkey tops in global import increase

Based on the data released by the World Trade Organization (WTO), Turkey showed the highest growth in 2004 by increasing imports 40%. Turkey ranked in 22nd place with $97.2 billion of imports; however it could not enter the first 30 in exports. When the 25 European Union (EU) countries were accepted as one country, Turkey's share in world exports rose to 0.9% and its import share increased to 1.4% in 2004. Therefore, Turkey surpassed India, Russia and Thailand in terms of imports during 2004.
