A number of Chinese provinces including Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangxi, Shanxi and Hebei have started to implement central government policy to save energy and reduce emissions, with a total reduction of 25.7 million mt in steel output expected to result from the policy implementation in these provinces - an investigation carried out by China's Xinhua News Agency reveals.
According to the latest data issued by China's National Bureau of Statistics, in August this year China produced 51.64 million mt of crude steel, down 1.1 percent year on year, marking the first year-on-year decrease since the beginning of the current year. Some market observers have commented that the decrease in crude steel production in August is linked to power rationing measures in many provinces.
