US alloy steelmaker Timken Company officially opened a new small-bar steel rolling mill on November 13, which is part of Timken's Harrison Steel Plant in Canton, Ohio. The $60 million, 76,000 square-foot mill will provide expanded rolling, finishing and inspection capabilities.

The new mill will have the ability to produce steel bars down to one inch in diameter, and thus meet the needs of customers in the bearing, industrial, energy distribution and automotive sectors.

Salvatore J. Miraglia, Jr., president of Timken's Steel Group, told press, "Our new small-bar mill is part of a strategic focus on driving differentiation in our steel products and expanding into new market sectors where we can grow profitably."

Daido Steel Co. Ltd, a leading Japanese producer with experience manufacturing special quality small-bar steel, collaborated with Timken on the mill's design and construction.
