Canton, Ohio-based steel ball bearings and specialty steel producer The Timken Company reported late Thursday that it has reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year contract with the United Steel Workers union (USW) local representing 2,300 hourly workers at the firm's Canton plant.

The current contract was extended through October 31 to allow time for a ratification vote later this month by members of USW Local 1123, said Timken.

"Both the company and the union worked hard toward a contract that is good for our customers, our associates and the community," said Sal Miraglia, president of Timken's Steel Group.
