Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced that it has signed a contract with Chinese steel producer Tianjin Metallurgy Group Zhasan Youfa Iron and Steel Co. Ltd to produce a rod outlet for a new rod mill, which will enable the company to produce high-end rod products with thermo-mechanical rolling.

Accordingly, the new rod outlet features advanced high-speed technology. Depending on the product mix, the new mill should produce approximately 700,000 mt per year with guaranteed speeds of 112 meters per second. This is the third mill that Siemens will build for Tianjin Metallurgy Group, with commissioning scheduled for the end of 2011.

Tianjin Metallurgy Group merged with three other steel companies in the city of Tianjin on July 13, 2010 to form Bohai Steel Group. The newly-merged companies collectively had about 20 million mt of crude steel output in 2009, which ranks it seventh among China's largest steelmakers.
