Germany-based steelmaker ThyssenKrupp Steel has decided to concentrate its slab logistics at Rotterdam port, in order to make it easier for the company to forward slabs to ThyssenKrupp's production sites in Duisburg and Bochum.

As a part of the company's growing strategy, ThyssenKrupp has made a significant investment in expanding its capacities on the both sides of the Atlantic. From 2009 the company's steel mill which is currently under construction in Brazil will ship approximately 2.1 million metric tons of slabs a year to be later processed into flats at the company's mills in Germany. These slab imports will be handled at Rotterdam port, where the port authorities will create all the necessary infrastructures.

On the other hand, ThyssenKrupp's export deliveries will still be handled via Antwerp port.
