Following the successful completion and commissioning of a coke oven plant in a phase 1 project for Dragon Steel Corporation of Taiwan which is a subsidiary of China Steel Corporation (CSC), German ThyssenKrupp Group's plantmaking subsidiary Uhde has again been awarded a plant contract to build phase 2. The phase 2 project will also be located in Taichung, some 130 km southwest of the Taiwanese capital Taipeh, and will enable Dragon Steel Corporation to increase its annual coke production capacity to 2.2 million mt.

Two coke oven batteries identical to those in phase 1 will produce approximately 3,000 mt of coke per day from around 4,000 mt of coal. The contract also includes expanding the gas treatment plant built by Uhde for phase 1. Phase 2 is scheduled for commissioning at the end of 2012.

Within the scope of this contract, Uhde will also be responsible for the engineering and supply of special equipment as well as supervision of the erection and commissioning activities.
