Thai SS users complain about the duties implemented
Stainless steel users in
Thailand claim that for certain products international quality standard
stainless steel in not produced in the country and therefore they are dependent on the imports. However these additional duties will raise their
production costs which will eventually avoid their competitiveness.
Finished
stainless steel imports are presently subject to a duty rate of 1% to 10%.
The Committee of Foreign Trade Department of
Thailand implemented anti-dumping duties to 47 items of cold rolled
stainless steel imports from certain countries to be valid until November 29, 2002.
Japan : 18.67% - 52.03% of CIF price
EU : 10.05% - 51.12%
Taiwan: 7.77% - 60.19%
Korea : 51.54%
Also anti-dumping duties of 30% of CIF value for 56 items of hot rolled steel from 14 countries namely
Japan, South
Africa,
Russia,
Kazakhstan,
India, South
Korea,
Taiwan,
Venezuela,
Argentina,
Ukraine, Algeria,
Indonesia,
Slovakia,
Romania are to take effect as of today, replacing surcharges that expired by the end of July 2002.
The
Stainless Steel Product Manufacturers' Club is reported to be in preparations of submitting a request to the Committee of Foreign Trade Department of
Thailand to review the anti-dumping duties this month. According to comments, such requests are appreciated in order to determine the proper rates to apply as validity of these duties might be extended upto five years.
