Local media reported Thursday that Nucor Steel Norfolk will continue its $70 million melt shop expansion even though Tejas Tubular plans to delay construction of the manufacturing plant that was to be built next to Nucor’s mill.

Nucor remains committed to Tejas and to providing steel billets for their Norfolk mill. We will continue with our own expansion project in anticipation of supplying their needs,” said Nucor General Manager Dirk Petersen in a statement.

The expansion was announced last year as a way to increase productivity in anticipation of Tejas’ new facility. Tejas has not indicated how long the construction delay will last.
