Indian steel giant Tata Steel has announced that it has completed the upgrade of its corrosion-resistant coating line in Lllanwern, South Wales, aimed at improving and expanding the company's range of high-value, high-formability automotive steels.
This £3.6 million investment, following the relighting of the blast furnace No. 4 at Port Talbot and the restart of the hot strip mill and pickling line at Llanwern, has increased the capacity of the Zodiac plant by 25 percent to 500,000 mt per year.
According to Tata Steel's statement, Zodiac plant's customers in the automotive industry increasingly require steels that combine high strength with high formability, a combination that enables manufacturers to make more fuel-efficient and lighter-weight vehicles.
