At the start of April, Tangshan Steel ceased production operations for good at its last common carbon wire rod line.

The company's general manager Wang Zilin stated that the closure marked another step in Tangshan Steel's acceleration in the elimination of dated technologies and in its vigorous improvement of product quality.

The production line in question had produced a total of 7.49 million mt of common carbon wire rod over a period of 50 years. In 2007, its output totaled 490,000 mt of wire rod.
