Taiwan's basic metal output down 3.64 percent in March

Taiwan's industrial production index in March this year increased by 3.05 percent as compared to March 2013 and was up 18.29 percent month on month, according to the country's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). Meanwhile, Taiwan's seasonally adjusted industrial production index in March increased by 2.91 percent compared to the same month of 2013.
 
In the first quarter of this year, Taiwan's seasonally adjusted industrial production index increased by 2.72 percent year on year.
 
In March of the current year, industrial output in the country's basic metal manufacturing decreased by 3.64 percent and output of metal product manufacturing increased by 1.80 percent, both compared with March 2013. In addition, on month-on-month basis, in March this year the basic metal manufacturing sector saw an increase of 13.60 percent in output and the metal product manufacturing sector saw an output increase of 18.94 percent. In the first quarter of this year, a 1.05 percent year-on-year decrease was recorded in Taiwan's basic metal manufacturing output, while the fabricated metal product output index indicated an increase of 1.56 percent, both year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in March this year, production in Taiwan's machinery and equipment industry increased by 1.75 percent, output in the automotive industry rose by 11.84 percent, while production in the Taiwanese construction sector decreased by 7.60 percent, all year on year.
