Taiwan-based steelmaker China Steel Corporation plans to invest $300 million to build a new steel plant in Java or Sulawesi, Indonesia, according to local newspaper Jakarta Globe, seeking to benefit from cheaper labor abroad by relocating its less profitable units.

The company appointed the domestic steelmaker Artha Metal Energy to conduct a feasibility study for the project.

CSC said that it is considering relocating some of its plants to Indonesia or Thailand.
