The Taiwanese government has announced a new policy which extends the duration of import licenses that allow the importation of Chinese-origin wire rods. According to the new policy, wire rod imports from China will be permitted from April 01 to September 30, 2007, for an additional six-month period. The policy decision covers all carbon steel wire rods (mesh grade and cold heating quality) and high-carbon steel wire rods. Taiwan had previously decided to restrict wire rod imports from China through an import license scheme in order to protect local low-end wire rod makers. The government has now extended the import license period in order to regulate wire rod distribution in the country.
