Russian steelmaker MMK has announced that the Turkish labor union Çelik-İş declared a strike on July 19 at the company's Turkey-based subsidiary MMK Metalurji due to failure to reach an agreement on wages. The parties are continuing negotiations on a collective labor agreement.

MMK stated that the company has been exerting all efforts to normalize the situation and bring the strikers back to work, which would protect the interests of both workers and the business.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, union workers went on strike at Turkish integrated steelmaker Erdemir's Iskenderun-based subsidiary Isdemir as of July 15, in line with a previous announcement made by Çelik-İş. As a result of the strike, in Iskenderun semi-finished and finished steel product prices started to move upwards affected by the potential decline in supply.
