A strike initiated last Friday at Mexican tube and pipe manufacturer Tenaris Tamsa has continued this week, following the detention of union leader Pascual Lagunes Ochoa.

Ochoa, the leader of the company’s affiliated union, was detained by police, following violent protests in March that killed two people and wounded 11 others.

Enrique Saavedra, the leader of a second union that opposes the strike, confirmed the Tenaris Tamsa plant located in the city of Veracruz, Mexico, has not been in operation since last Friday. Production is expected to be affected due to the halt.

Tenaris Tamsa did not respond to SteelOrbis questions on Monday regarding when the plant will resume activities.

Tubos de Acero de México or Tamsa is the sole producer of seamless steel pipe products in Mexico.
