In the first half of 2010, Anshan-based Chinese steelmaker Angang Steel produced more than 100,000 mt of steel cord, indicative of the shift in steel production in Anshan towards high value-added products such as steel cord and also grain-oriented silicon steel.

Many value-added and high-tech steel processing facilities are being established in Anshan's suburbs. 346 steel processing projects are being built in Anshan, including a 0.3 million mt grain-oriented silicon steel project and a 0.6 million mt high quality wire rod project.

In addition, on July 25, at the 0.5 million mt phase 1 project site of Fengchi CRC Co. Ltd in Anshan, project director Zhao Rongguo announced that the total project investment was RMB 820 million. The facility is expected to start production at the end of 2010, and an annual output value of RMB 3 billion is targeted.

At the same time, Dongya Precision Stainless Steel Co., Ltd is investing in a stainless steel pipe production line being built in the Anshan new technology zone, which is expected to start production in 2011. This is the largest stainless welded pipe project in northern China, with a designed annual output capacity of 90,000 mt of precision stainless steel.
