Steel Dynamics has formed a joint venture with Dynamics Composites to manufacture durable, composite railroad ties.
The joint venture, funded and largely owned by Steel Dynamics, will have the capacity to produce 250'000 ties a year with automated
manufacturing processes.
The plant will employ about 20 people and is slated to open by the end of 2006.
Steel Dynamics and its joint venture will serve the North American demand for railroad ties, which is estimated to be 15 million to 19 million ties per year, a $700 million to $800 million market.
Tiles will be manufactured under the previously developed "Primix" brand.
In other Steel Dynamics news, the company this week appointed Christopher Stock to the newly created position of National Account Sales Manager. Mr. Stock will manage clients who purchase products from any Steel Dynamics division for multiple
manufacturing or
distribution locations across
North America. He will also be in charge of sales and marketing for customers that purchase products from multiple Steel Dynamics divisions.
