According to the information provided by Spanish Automobile and Truck Manufacturers' Association (Anfac), in August this year automobile sales in
Spain declined by 23.8 percent year on year to 44,578 units. Anfac said that this figure represents the lowest level recorded in last 17 years.
In August, sales to individual buyers regressed by 37.3 percent to 28,440 units, while sales to car rental companies climbed by 76.5 percent to 2,159 units and sales to companies rose by 17 percent to 13,979 units, all compared to August 2009.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year, automobile sales in
Spain improved by 21.9 percent year on year, reaching 730,906 units.
"This level of market unfortunately confirms the negative expectations announced for the second half," said Anfac. The association foresees a 30 percent drop in the market for the last six months of this year, which represents 164,000 fewer registrations than in the second half of 2009.
