South Korea’s car exports up 8.5 percent in October

In October this year, South Korea's total car output surged by 7.1 percent year on year, totaling 414,574 units, according to a report released by the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA). The report says that the increase was due to the growth of exports. Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of 2011, South Korea's car production rose 9.1 percent year on year to 3,803,397 units.
 
South Korean domestic sales in September this year decreased by 8.8 percent year on year due to shrunk consumer sentiment by the concern over the economic slowdown, remaining at 121,564 units, facing the first negative turn in this year. In the first 10 months of 2011 domestic sales climbed 2.8 percent year on year, amounting to 1,228,343 vehicles.
 
South Korean car exports in October went up by 8.5 percent year on year to 274,978 units. In the January-October period this year, exports surged by 13.1 percent year on year, reaching 2,548,187 units.
