In April this year, South Korea's total automotive (cars and commercial vehicles) output amounted to 424,402 units, down 2.2 percent year on year due to the decrease in the export volume, according to a report released by the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA). On the other hand, South Korea's car and commercial vehicle output in the first four months of the current year saw a year-on-year decrease of 3.54 percent to 1,532,478 units.
Meanwhile, in April this year South Korean automotive exports totaled 282,044 units, down six percent year on year, affected by sluggish demand in emerging markets like Russia and Brazil, coupled with a weak yen and euro. In the first four months of the current year, the country's automotive exports decreased by 6.59 percent year on year to 1,015,804 units.
In April this year, the number of vehicles sold in the South Korean domestic market totaled 134,631 units, up 2.7 percent year on year, benefiting from an increase in sales of SUVs and minivans. In the first four months of this year, domestic vehicle sales in South Korea increased by 8.3 percent year on year to 479,194 units.
