South Africa’s GDP up 3.2 percent in Q2 over Q1

In the second quarter of 2012, South Africa's seasonally adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 3.2 percent quarter on quarter, according to the detailed statistics released by Statistics South Africa. The country's GDP had increased 2.7 percent on quarter-on-quarter basis in the first quarter of 2012.

South Africa's unadjusted GDP rose three percent in the second quarter this year compared to the same quarter of the previous year, while the unadjusted GDP for the first half of 2012 increased by 2.5 percent compared to the first half of the previous year.

Meanwhile, in the second quarter the country's manufacturing sector showed a decline of one percent following a rise of 7.7 percent in the first quarter of the current year, due to lower production in basic iron and steel in the second quarter.
