According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in March of the current year the value of South Africa's exports of base metals and articles thereof totaled ZAR 11.25 billion ($1.07 billion), decreasing by 2.9 percent from February. In the first quarter this year, South Africa's export value of base metals and articles thereof increased by 41 percent year on year, reaching ZAR 33.51 billion ($3.18 billion).
In March this year, the country's imports of base metals and articles thereof amounted to ZAR 3.53 billion ($334.60 million), down 17.2 percent from February, while in the first quarter South African imports of base metals and articles thereof rose 7.1 percent year on year to ZAR 12.25 billion ($1.16 billion).
