According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in December last year the value of South Africa's exports of base metals and articles thereof totaled ZAR 10 billion ($624.9 million), down 0.7 percent from November. In 2015, South Africa's export value of base metals and articles thereof decreased by 4.3 percent year on year to ZAR 124.44 billion ($7.78 billion).
In December last year, the country's imports of base metals and articles thereof amounted to ZAR 4.16 billion ($260 million), falling 22.3 percent from November, while in 2015 South African imports of base metals and articles thereof increased by 20.6 percent year on year, amounting to ZAR 60.2 billion ($3.76 billion).
