South Africa’s base metal export value down 1.1 percent in Q1

According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in March this year the value of South Africa's exports of base metals and articles thereof totaled ZAR 11.33 billion ($849.02 million), up one percent from February. In the first quarter of this year, South Africa's export value of base metals and articles thereof decreased by 1.1 percent year on year to ZAR 32.99 billion ($2.47 billion). 
 
In March of the current year, the country's imports of base metals and articles thereof amounted to ZAR 4.68 billion ($350.74 million), increasing  0.5 percent from the previous month, while in the first three months South African imports of base metals and articles thereof fell by 7.6 percent year on year, amounting to ZAR 14.79 billion ($1.12 billion).
