South Africa imposes safeguard duty on HRC and plate imports

The South African government has announced that it has imposed definitive safeguard duty on hot rolled coil (HRC) and plate imports for a period of three years, in addition to the existing 10 percent import duty imposed on the same products.

Accordingly, the safeguard duty rate for the imports of mentioned products stands at 12 percent for the period between August 11, 2017 and August 10, 2018 (including August 10), 10 percent for the period between August 11, 2018 and August 10, 2019 (including August 10), and eight percent for the period between August 11, 2019 and August 10, 2020 (including August 10).

The products in question currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 7208, 7211.14, 7211.19, 7225.30, 7225.40, 7225.99, 7226.91 and 7226.99.
