German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that it has received an order from Chinese steelmaker Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. for the supply of a new 2,250 mm hot strip mill to be built at the new steelworks location in Zhanjiang in the south of China.

The high-performance hot strip mill will have an annual capacity of 5.5 million mt of hot strip with final thickness of 1.2 mm to 25.4 mm and strip widths between 800 mm and 2,100 mm. The hot strip mill is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2015.

This is the second hot strip mill supplied by SMS Siemag to Baosteel, the first having been commissioned at the end of the 1980s, producing more than 120 million mt of hot strip up to the present.
