Germany-based plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that together with its Italian subsidiary SMS INNSE it will supply an argon oxygen decarburization (AOD) converter vessel and will modernize an electric arc furnace for Spain-based stainless steel producer Acerinox.

SMS INNSE will supply the AOD converter vessel, while the 120 mt electric arc furnace will be modernized by SMS Siemag.

According to SMS Siemag's statement, the converter is scheduled to start production this year, while the electric arc furnace is expected to be commissioned in 2013.

ACERINOX operates a flat steel product line for the production of stainless steel in various grades at its Palmones facility. The meltshop is equipped with three electric arc furnaces and two AOD converters, producing around 1 million mt of liquid steel per year.
