SMI and Corus collaboration in automotive industry
Anglo-Ductch steel producer Corus and Japanese Sumitomo Metal Industries signed a technical collaboration agreement earlier this year. Under this agreement the two companies are aiming to accelerate the development of new products and their delivery to the markets.
The two companies wish to assist their customers in implementing international material standards for new vehicle programs and thus to speed up the penetration into the global marketplace. In this respect, they have already begun to supply hot dipped galvanised high strength strip steel to shared customers, according to the information given.
Both companies' intention can be summarised as working together to improve quality and
manufacturing technologies through process control. This will be obtained by controlling the process from first stage of
steelmaking to the finishing of galvanised and galvanneal products for
automotive sectors and the surface quality of engineering steel products.
