Slab and wind turbine shipments swell on St. Lawrence Seaway

Shipments of steel slab on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway from March 22 to May 31 rose 102 percent over the same period in 2010. Shipments of wind energy construction equipment were up as well, as three major offshore shipments have already have already passed through the major North American shipping hub.

Total cargo shipments over the period were 7.6 million metric tons, a 4 percent increase over the same period last year.
