SteelOrbis Shanghai Several days ago, Baosteel shipped 12 pieces of pipeline steel plate to Russia, the total weight of which amounted to 85 metric tons. This batch of steel plate will be transformed into steel pipe in Russia for use in the famous Sino-Russian Oil Pipeline Project. The steel plate consignment is noteworthy because it marks the first-time entry of Baosteel's pipeline steel plate into the international market. The total demand of the pipeline project is expected to reach more than one million mt of pipeline steel. Of all the Chinese mills, Baosteel is the only supplier to have qualified for the project. Sources report that if Baosteel's product passes inspection and authentication this time, then it will be commissioned to produce another 15,000 mt by the end of 2006 and will start to supply the project in large quantity.
