Mexican steelmaker Grupo Simec is planning to build a new steel plant in Tamaulipas state.

The Tamaulipas plant is expected to begin production in mid-2009 with an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 mt.  The new plant will focus on producing specialty steel for use in the mining, forging, and automobile industries.

Grupo Simec has already purchased the land for its new plant and is currently pricing out equipment for the mill and processing all the necessary permits.

Simec currently makes non-flat, structural steel products at mills in Guadalajara and Mexicali, Mexico.
