Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced that it has received an order from Brazil-based steelmaker Gerdau's Colombian subsidiary Gerdau Diaco for the modernization of two bar mills at its Tuta and Tocancipá locations.

The modernized rolling mills will come into operation at the end of 2012 and produce rebars in different diameters. Siemens will supervise the installation and commissioning of both projects.

Diaco is the main steel producer in Colombia, with the largest scrap recycling plant in the country to produce long products in Tocancipá. It also has production sites in Muña, Cali and Tuta and service units in Cota, Cartagena, Bucaramanga, Pereira, Medellín, Yumbo (Valle) and Tocancipá.
